One in two homeowners worried about rising interest rates
|
A recent survey of almost 3,000 mortgage holders conducted by realestate.com.au revealed the impact that inflation and rising interest rates is having on homeowner confidence in Australia, particularly among young mortgage holders. It found that one in two borrowers are worried about rising interest rates.
The survey was conducted over June and July and since then, the cash rate was lifted by a further 50 basis points. The total increases so far of 1.75% have added $500 a month to the average mortgage of $500,000 if the borrower's lender passed on all rate increases in full. That is a lot of extra money to find each month for the average household. This article reveals more but also shares a way to potentially offset the recent rate hikes.

Family trusts – what are they & are they only for the rich?
|
Most people have heard of a family trust, however many don't take the time to look into what it actually is and how it works assuming that it's reserved for the wealthy.
The truth is, a family trust can be an excellent option to owning an entire portfolio in your own name. That's because it is an ownership structure that gives family members a means to pass control of their assets to the next generation as part of an estate planning tool while also offering some lucrative tax and asset protection benefits. However, as is the case with all investment strategies, they are not for everyone and there are some cons as well as all the pros.
This article provides an overview of everything you need to know about family trusts, including the risks, costs, benefits and how to set one up.
